Virgin Media, the cable company, announced plans to cut 2200 jobs by 2012 – 15 per cent of its workforce. Virgin Media’s real problem is its £4.3bn of debt which is never likely to be paid off by a reducing service. Part of a group wide overall, Virgin Media has said the cuts are "critical" in order for it to compete effectively.
